A Day at the White House

We were up early today. There was a lot of snow and Washington was pretty much shut down. I was worried our activities would be canceled today, but everything went as planned. We had to take the metro instead of being bused because the roads were bad. That meant a lot of walking on very slippery roads dressed in clothes not meant for snow.

When we got to the Eisenhower building next to the White House we had to wait for a long time to get through security. It was so cold! We spent most of our day meeting some amazing people in the administration and other agencies.

The most amazing part of the day was meeting the President! We walked over to the White House and into the state room. We lined up from shortest to tallest and I ended up right up front and center. When President Obama came in he talked to us for a long time. I was only a few feet away from him. He joined us for the picture and stood right next to me. He put his arm around my shoulder! Afterwards he shook everyone's hand!

We had a chance to go into a few of the adjoining rooms. When we looked out the window we saw Sasha and Malia sledding in the yard!

Tonight we had the recognition banquet. It was quite fancy. Dinner was delicious.  Tomorrow is another early morning, starting with a tour of the White House!! It was such an amazing day!
